The things people actually ask before buying a name.
Who owns the domain?
We register it inside our registrar account and manage it for you, with your business listed as the contact on the name. That means we are the registrant of record — we would rather say so plainly than pretend otherwise. What protects you is the exit: ask us at any time and we will unlock the name and give you the transfer code so you can move it to your own account, at no charge.
Can anyone register a .ca?
No. The .ca namespace has Canadian Presence Requirements set by the registry — you generally need to be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a business incorporated in Canada. We check this as part of the order.
What happens when the term ends?
We contact you before it expires and ask. Renewal is not automatic and we will not quietly charge a card on file.
Do I have to buy email or hosting?
No. The domain stands on its own. The add-ons are there because most people who need a name also need an inbox on it, but nothing is pre-ticked.
Is the multi-year price per year or in total?
The advertised figure is per year, and the term is paid in one payment up front. Each plan also shows the full amount so there is no ambiguity.
Can I move a domain I already own?
Transfers are on the roadmap but are not live yet. Today this covers registering a name that is currently free.
I already have a Facebook page. Do I actually need a domain?
You can run a business without one, plenty do. What you cannot do without one is own the address. A social page belongs to the platform, and its rules and reach change without asking you. A domain is the one piece of your presence nobody can restyle, throttle, or take down.
Is .ca better than .com for a Canadian business?
For a business serving Canadian customers, .ca reads as local and is usually still available at a sensible price. .com carries more weight if you sell outside the country or expect to. Plenty of businesses register both and point one at the other so nobody can trade on their name.
Someone already owns the .com version of my name. Now what?
That happens constantly and it is rarely worth a fight. Most businesses take the .ca, or add a short word that reflects the trade or the town. Buying a name off its current owner is possible but tends to be expensive and slow, and we would tell you honestly if we thought it was not worth it.
Do I have to be incorporated to register a .ca?
No. The registry requires a Canadian connection, not a corporation. Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and sole proprietors operating in Canada all qualify, as do incorporated businesses. We check this as part of the order so it does not fail after the fact.
I am a sole proprietor working under my own name. Does that work?
Yes. A sole proprietor with a Canadian connection can hold a .ca. If you are trading under your personal name rather than a registered business name, that is fine too.
Will my home address end up in a public database?
The registry treats individuals and corporations differently. Registrant details for individuals are withheld from the public record by default. For a registered corporation, the business details are public, which is normal for a business and generally what you want anyway.
Is this going to quietly renew and hit my card in a year?
No. Renewal is not automatic. We contact you before the term ends and ask. If we do not hear back, we follow up rather than charge you — we would rather have an awkward reminder than an unexpected charge.
What if I change my mind after ordering?
Tell us quickly. A domain registration is effectively final once it is placed with the registry, and registry fees are not refundable to us either, so we cannot undo it afterwards. Before it is placed, there is nothing to unwind.
I am not technical. Who actually sets this up?
We do. If you add email or a website, the records that make them work are configured for you — there is nothing for you to copy into a control panel. The parts that genuinely need a decision from you, like which name to take, are the parts we ask about.
What happens to this if I stop working with you?
You keep the name. We unlock it and give you the transfer code so it can move to whatever registrar you like, and we do not charge for that or drag it out. Holding a client's domain hostage is a standard industry trick and we think it is a rotten one.
